Born in 1954, deafened at the age of one and educated in Mumbai,
Shri Anantadev Das (but his passport name is Ashok Rao) took up Krishna consciousness in 1981 after he was in search of Truth for a few years. In 1983, he founded Hare Krishna Welfare for the Deaf (HKWD) in order to help for the educational, cultural and spiritual welfare of the hearing impaired. For a few years under Anantadev's guidance HKWD held various programmes for the deaf in Mumbai. From 1986 Shri Anantadev Das regularly helped the deaf in his preaching activities in Bangalore. In 1992, he decided to settle in Bangalore. He had been invited to give spiritual lectures in Chennai, New Delhi, Ahmedabad, Pune and Tumkur. In 1986 in Washington D.C., USA for one day he gave a speech to the deaf students of religion and philosophy at the famous university 'Gallaudet University' and received a beautiful appreciation letter of the hearing professor of religion and philosophy. His center is located at ISRO Layout, Bangalore.
